V.E.S. Custom Santa Cruz Eye Build

This board was in great shape to start with but thanks to a V.E.S  custom refurbish it look's even better and will last much  much longer!!!

2021 Build

This is how it looked from Ebay purchase

This is the original cost and add on ebay when purchased by V.E.S.

1990 SANTA CRUZ ROB ROSKOPP EYE

Before Top

Before Bottom

Vintage shoe shredding grip tape. This kind of grip would just shred shoes back in the day, but you would stick to your board in the rain!!!

Great board but the color choice could be better, let's see what we can do when we add a little V.E.S. custom refurbish to it.

Imperfections (Skater Made!!)

Top prepped

Ready for tasteful touch up!

Ready for tasteful touch up!

Grip tape removed cleaned up and ready for the V.E.S. process. I didn't do any touch up on the top graphics. Doing to much graphic touch up will hurt this boards overall look I'm going for. Again the goal is to clean this board up but keep its history.

But depending on the boards graphics and location of damage, I like to sometimes tastefully fill in the blanks on the graphics just enough and leave the rest raw to be covered by the V.E.S. process. I feel that filling in the blanks just enough sometimes in the right locations gives the board a better over all look when done. And the best part about  the V.E.S. seal, is that it helps blend any of the work that has been done making it very hard to see, if you can see it at all.

Now done and looking good!!

Finished Right Side

This board was a fun build! It has one of the best shapes and concave I have ever felt under my feet!!!

The hardware is all original including the 1 1/4"

New Thunderbolt truck bolts.

Left Side Close Up

Left Side Close Up

I've seen a few boards where the side graphics tend to dry up or get lost to skateboarding but now these have a better chance to last far into the future. The V.E.S. seal has given this graphic protection.

Trucks

Plastics

Left Side Close Up

The trucks are Vintage Dead Bolts that were sanded and repainted with a custom black and a satin sheen finish to match the boards finish. They also have soft pads under trucks to protect graphics from truck rub. I do this so that if you get the urge to jump on your board, even for a second the soft pads will help protect the graphic. Here you can also see I did some graphic touch up before V.E.S. sealed. I did just enough to the tail graphic to keep some of its history and have it still look good. It's sorta like hiding your work in the graphic damage.

Plastics

The rails are vintage (lightly used) to blend even with this boards history. The nose and tail guards were custom made to fit the shape of the board and they are tough!!

Wheels

Plastics

The wheels are Brand New 2020 Santa Cruz Slime Ball with V.E.S. refurbished vintage NSK 608z A53 with spacers. OK, so the wheels are not vintage but they do match this board well and make the over all look of this board just pop, no matter how you look at it!!!

Finished And Ready

Finished Top

Finished Bottom

Finished Bottom

You can see the old drilled holes through the grip tape that have been filled with a hardened white wax to keep dirt, air, and water out that can harm the board over time. And all the hardware was colored to match the trucks. I wanted the look of this board to look great all the way around and match.

Here is the finished board. I could have gone more flat with the boards finish, but this is a V.E.S. custom board and we only make one of a kind!!

Back in the day when I saw this board I was like WOW !!!!

And when I stand on this board now, it takes me back to the late 80's to a time I tore up and down the streets of Springfield, Holyoke, Chicopee, Ludlow, Indian Orchard and a few weekends down town Boston to ride the Red - Brick!!!!

Don't be scared of the past - ride it into the future

Update pics: January 9, 2023

This was made a while ago, so I figured I would show you if there was any

change in the board or graphics after being sealed.

No, Still Awesome!!!
