Collectors Vintage Powell Sword & Skull

History being saved soon!

This collector wants his original complete vintage skateboard back under his feet to ride again with all its original parts refurbished and most of its history aged look intact. As in most cases with these old boards they are a work in progress. Any problems that pop up will be shared with the owner during the refurbish and a fix will be applied. This old school skateboarder isn't afraid to trust me with his board!

Don't miss this build!!!

This board is being refurbished with all its original parts. The griptape is also being refurbished and put back on. My time line for this is around six months from start date.

Bottom

The goal here is to to get it ready to ride for this collector - as a vintage board, of course -  and save its history at the same time. As you can see, this board is just crumbling apart. Let's see what we can do!!!

Stay tuned.

Was asked to save

No problem

The owner also wants to save this history that comes with the board. These are the kind of boards I like to work on the most- the ones with personal history. And, I get to make it last !!!

This too will be blended in with the final look of this board!

As you can see, this board is being held together with the tail guard. The good news is that it has good shape.

My guess is that the other side of the board took some weather related damage at some point for awhile.

Close up of problems

Look close

Look even closer

Look even closer

This is a big growing problem for this boards owner. No problem for V.E.S. !!!

Look even closer

Look even closer

Look even closer

This separation goes right to the truck and the middle of the board. With this amount of damage to the board's wood, as soon as you take the trucks off, the 7 ply separation starts spreading even faster to the other side.

Tail damage

Look even closer

What do you see?

The damaged plys can slide around when the board is rotting. Thanks to the tail guard, trucks, nose guard and rails most of the board stayed in shape.

What do you see?

What do you see?

What do you see?

The board still has some nice concave to it after all these years. The truck guard stickers will also be saved as part of the board's history.

Wheels/bearings

What do you see?

Wheels/bearings

Wheels and bearings could look better- let's see if I can bring some color and life back to blend in well with this board's total refurbish.

Trucks

What do you see?

Wheels/bearings

The trucks will be dealt with along with all the board's rusty hardware.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Some may say.

But not V.E.S.

If you are a collector or know anything about wood you know what this is.

The only thing missing are carpenter ant's.

Griptape removed

Ready for refurbish

The griptape has been removed from the board and is now ready to be refurbished with its history saved.

Now what?

Paint under griptape

Ready for refurbish

What you see is what V.E.S. deals with all the time on old boards. Now what?

As always I will consult with my the owner on how to proceed for the final look of this board.

This is what V.E.S. offers.

Custom - Saved - Skateboard - History

Paint under griptape

Paint under griptape

Paint under griptape

Take a look. The paint underneath the griptape is now even cracking off the board.

As I have said before, most boards at this stage of age and condition will not last into the future and its value will be in constant decline.

The V.E.S. process is changing that future with every board we get !!!

The board and paint are the same thing

Look real close

Deep cracks on both sides

Deep cracks on both sides

When you have the board's wood in this condition, your graphics can't hold on much longer if it's holding on at all.

Deep cracks on both sides

These pennies don't only show how deep the dry rot cracks go, but it also shows the raising and separating of the boards 7 plys. If left in this condition, one day you will see through the skateboard.

V.E.S. is changing this board's future for the better!!

History seen again!!

The hidden parts of this board have not been seen by it's owner for quit some time!

History seen again!!

History seen again!!

Like I said, this is the kind of boards I like to work on. The kind that saves a skateboarders history for the future. The value we have in something like an old skateboard is priceless and V.E.S. is the only one saving it for the people brave enough to send me a board.

We don't make false promises, we save skateboard history and we are proving it right here in front of you.

Pics' of part's coming soon.

All postings approved .

Now in pieces

Now the board is ready to be restored.

!!! And it needs it !!!

First round of restoration

The board and its graphics are now stable and can be worked on without the worry of it disintegrating. The plastics have been cleaned up and prepped for the next phase. The stickers have been refurbished and are ready to be put back on. The bearings have been cleaned and are ready to spin into the future. The hardware is ready for the next step . When we work on boards in this bad of shape we take our time on every piece of the board to maintain its history ,look and value.

Update: November 7, 2022

Problems reversed

Pieces put back in

Pieces put back in

Before any work was done on this board I had to stabilize the graphics, so I could work on the board. Now that the board and its graphics have been stabilized I can now start to customize the board and its look before being V.E.S. sealed.

Pieces put back in

Pieces put back in

Pieces put back in

The big splinter that fell off this board is now back into its stock position and this corner of the board is now made stronger to last into the future. No termites getting into this board now or any time soon!

Sides sealed right

Pieces put back in

Sides sealed right

This boards 7 ply's were wide open, dry and in constant deterioration. The center of both sides were bubbling out and splitting apart.    But that's no problem for V.E.S.

Refurbished Trucks

Now Ready For The Final Build

These trucks have been powder-coated to match the original white. All the original hardware was cleaned up and sealed to match the overall final look. The POOL TOOL stickers have been refurbished and put back on as part of this builds history saved. The bearing have been refurbished and are ready for its wheels. 11/18/22

These wheels were in ok shape as most of the history was from sitting in storage.

Not too much damage from the bearings, but like any wheel of this age, the bearings, if rusty and left in, will only lead to more damage as time goes on.

Cleaned: in outside light

This is the first step of the V.E.S. detail. I can do more but the owner likes how this looks, so I will stop.

Now that the wheels are done, I will apply a custom product to help maintain the look and help protect the wheels from the elements.

Now you can see the color of the wheels. This is just one part of the board, but all together this look will age well long into the future and look good doing it while adding value $$$.

There is only one website that can refurbish your vintage skateboard and show your board built in different ways and colors in a way,

Grip-tape applied

Marks of history saved

Grip-tape applied

The vintage grip-tape was refurbished with customer's history saved and re-applied back onto it's original location. The cracks were fixed and sealed and the top graphics are no longer flaking off the board. You can now stand on your board long into the future without your skateboard crumbling under your feet.

Fixed and sealed

Marks of history saved

Grip-tape applied

The bottom cracking and bubbling of the wood was fixed under the graphics and the board was sealed with its history look that's now made to last far into the future for my customer. I have learned how to turn back the time of damage for these old boards. This board will display well far into the future for it's owner and who ever has it next.

Marks of history saved

History saved around the corner

Customer's marks are now sealed into the refurbished vintage grip-tape. These marks saved on the grip-tape not only makes it one of a kind but it makes my customer's history with this board last.

Rot and separation of plys fixed

History saved around the corner

The marks on the grip-tape wrap around to this side of the board and are now sealed in, to last. No more being worried of losing this board's history. Now that the board has been V.E.S. sealed, you can wipe any dust or dirt away with ease for many years to come.

Fixed tail

Rot and separation of plys fixed

When I got the board and removed the tail guard, paint and wood was just falling off and bad. I was able to save most of the paint and fix the wood under and around it to last for many years to come, even if skated.

This part of the board was in need of some serious work to be saved. But that's no problem for V.E.S.

This part of the tail was missing some of the wood and the plys were very separated and shifting far into the board. Now the wood has been rejuvenated and the wood was filled in to give it strength and shape.

This side of the board was the worst side. The damage went right through to the center of the board and the wood was very dry-rotted in condition and the graphics were barely holding, on both sides. Now fixed and sealed.

Vintage paint

All the stains and history of this board are now sealed in. The V.E.S. seal and the work I have done, are made to have this board age well in looks and function as the board will keep aging. I am able to see the future of these old  boards as I work on them all the time. I have developed a process to help reverse the damage and have them age well for a long time to come.

Vintage paint

I could have cleaned up the sides of this board, but to keep the look of history going around this board and not go overboard on this refurbish, I decided to keep the original paint.

I have gotten pretty good at refurbishing vintage boards to make them look original. Even with all the work I have done.

You can pick any angle of this board to look at and it will look even throughout the color spectrum of this board with history.

This board took a little longer to work on just because I had to even out the look of the work done and the condition of the graphics. You just can't spray paint a board in this condition and expect it to look like this. Only V.E.S. knows how to do this one of a kind of work and repeat it.

Sealed vintage colors

Sealed vintage colors

The best part of what I can do is save the aged color in the paint and graphics to display well for many years to come. Most of the paint spliting has been closed up making this board have value far into the future

The seal over angle

Sealed vintage colors

Just look at how the boards angles have that pearl look and depth to the paint that is now saved at a great point of the vintage Powell color spectrum of this old board. It is my belief that the new boards made by Powell will not have this color quality down the road. That's why it's so important to me to do what I'm doing right.

My customer's board is now done: February 22,2023

Board now built

Sealed, even surface

Board now built

This skateboard came to me in rough shape. It had water damage, dry-rot wood and all its accessories showed the damage of time. Did I mention the graphics were flaking off?

The V.E.S. process turns back the clock of time on these old boards while giving some of  its weight and structural rigidity back. Now this board is ready for the future with a better

value and life.

Vintage parts
